In a dirt bike accident, June 23, 2001 at 10:30 pm, Sam went over a bank and landed on his head and shoulders (at about 50mph and a drop of 25ft) .  He was airlifted to the Edmonton Royal Alex Hospital - From the emergency room he was assigned to the Neuro-Trama unit for 10 days.
Sam has a broken neck, 3 broken vertebra in his back, a broken wrist, a broken right shoulder scapula, 2 broken ribs, bruised lungs and kidneys and a lacerated liver. Because head trauma was creating violent reactions Sam was tied to his bed for 10 days. He was on "operation alert" for 3 days in case there was problems with his liver. On Day 6 he was finally stable enough that they could operate on his wrist. He had nothing to eat or drink for the 8 days.
13 days later Sam went for his first walk!!
Day 15 - still confused but physically doing better each day. He is now being fed soft foods but has a bit of trouble swallowing.

Waiting to be released.
July 11, 2001 - Day 17 - heading home.
Day 20 - a new body cast for better neck support.
X-rays and photos showing pins in his wrist.
Day 37 - Pins removed from wrist
Day 51 - Wrist cast removed
Day 65 - Sam can now sleep at night without wearing the body cast!
Day 67 - standing without body cast for these pictures only - he needs to wear the body cast until September 24.  Lost size and weight - can't wait to get back to the gym!
Muscle Tech sent Sam a huge gift basket with their best wishes.
September 24, 2001 - Day 93 - Sam and his
doctor on the day the body cast came off.
Doc says his back looks great!!
